Symphonia League

Volunteerism is a fulfilling way to get involved behind the scenes with The Williamsburg Symphonia. Members of the Williamsburg Symphonia League work to further an appreciation of classical music and the musical arts, to encourage its professional musicians and to create strong community support for the orchestra. Its volunteers are essential to the orchestra's operations and the achievement of its mission.

New members are always welcome. Annual dues are $20 for an individual or $35 for a couple.

The League has presented many social and fundraising events throughout its history. Some of our current or recent activities include:

  • Encore Affairs - Reserve now for the fourth season of festive functions in beautiful homes and private venues offered by our generous supporters. Many events are sold out each year.
  • Cocktails with the Conductor - An evening at the historic Westover Plantation on the James River, described by some as the most beautiful home in America. The plantation was built for Virginia's William Byrd in 1730. Save the date for April 11, 2010.
  • Let the Music Bloom - The Symphonia's 25th anniversary gala was held on April 26, 2009. The evening's festivities included both live and silent auctions and music by the Dan Knipple Jazz Quartet. Honorary chairpersons were John Jamison and Gretchen Kimble.

  • The League Boutique - Offering music-themed gifts and jewelry, the Symphonia's cookbook and many other unique gifts. Visit the Boutique in the Kimble Theatre lobby before the performances and during intermission.

  • Williamsburg Today: A Year of Culinary Celebrations - A cookbook for all occasions, this edition is almost sold out!
  • Stay-Away invitations (don’t come, send money) - A nationally recognized fundraising concept, the seventh edition was called “Dangling on the Edge,” a sequel to the episode, “Dancing on the Edge.” Future editions to be announced.

  • The Art of Music - The painted-violins project in collaboration with This Century Art Gallery included outreach visits to area schools to teach how visual images and musical themes can be partners in the arts. For more information go to www.thiscenturyartgallery.org.
